The Israel Defense Forces have initiated an investigation into the unsuccessful attempt to intercept a ballistic missile launched by Houthi forces from Yemen on the night of December 21, 2024.
The missile reached Israeli territory at approximately 3:45 AM, passing through airspace without being successfully intercepted. Despite the deployment of multiple interceptor missiles from the «Arrow» missile defense system, the missile was not destroyed.
According to videos shared on social media, the missile landed on a playground in the Jaffa area, causing significant damage. Reports indicate dozens of injuries.
The IDF confirmed the interception failure shortly after the attack. It was noted that the «Arrow» missile defense system has faced similar issues in the past. In several instances, intercepted missile fragments fell on residential areas, such as during the night of December 19.
