The Federal Police of Argentina neutralized an Islamist terrorist organization that planned attacks on members of the Jewish community in Mendoza, a city in western Argentina known for its world-famous wines.
Police have arrested seven suspects, and the case is now before the court.
The investigation began after a Jewish journalist reported receiving threats. These led to the discovery of an Islamist group exchanging messages on social media about attacks on Jews in Mendoza.
«Members of the organization used social media to spread religious hatred, share content from terrorist groups like ISIS and the Taliban, and plan attacks,» said Security Minister Patricia Bullrich. «We will eliminate all criminals who spread fear among Argentinians. They will pay for this,» she tweeted, sharing a video of the police raid. The footage shows large knives, swords, firearms, and confiscated cell phones and laptops.
