The Italian Foreign Ministry has called on Iran to de-escalate following the liquidation of Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. In a related letter, the Italian Foreign Ministry called for a reduction of tensions in the region.
A representative of the ministry, on behalf of Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, held a meeting with an Iranian diplomat. The Italian Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of stopping a wider confrontation in the region.
«For Italy, it is important that the new administration led by President Pezeshkian and all Iranian institutions follow the path of dialogue with Europe and all the countries in the region. Italy is always ready to participate in any political and diplomatic activities aimed at de-escalation,» stated the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
