The new Argentine Foreign Minister, Gerardo Vertein, took his oath on the Torah. The ceremony took place in the presence of the country’s president, Javier Milei, who read the weekly Torah commentary «Lech Lecha» during his speech.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz noted that he was moved by the format of the ceremony, emphasizing that the reading of the Torah portion during Vertein’s inauguration and oath is a symbolic gesture reflecting his connection to the Jewish people and the State of Israel. Katz also expressed hope for strengthening relations between Argentina and Israel with the support of President Milei.
The ceremony differed from traditional formats: Vertein took the oath with his hand on the Torah, adding significance to the event.
