Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called on the international community to stop selling arms to Israel. His appeal came in response to recent actions by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which reportedly targeted positions of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon.

Sánchez expressed his strong condemnation of the incident. Earlier, the IDF announced that it is investigating reports of injuries to two peacekeepers after a UN source claimed Israeli forces had fired on a UNIFIL observation post.

Spain plays a significant role in the mission, having sent 650 peacekeepers to Lebanon. Notably, the UNIFIL mission is led by a Spanish general. Following a meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican, Sánchez emphasized his stance, stating, «I strongly condemn the attacks carried out by the Israeli military against the UN mission in Lebanon.»
